Breeders Cup 2010 – Race Schedule & Dates

The Breeders’ Cup will be held at Churchill Downs on 5th-6th November, 7th time in 2010 which is more than at any other track. The Breeders’ Cup is having a total of 14 races like last year spread over two days of racing with $25.5 million in purse money on the line.

On November 5th, there will be six races with the Marathon first then all the distaff divisions, headlined by the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (formerly the Breeders’ Cup Distaff) worth $2 million. And on November 6th, there will be eight races headlined by the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at 1 1/4 miles. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be broadcasted on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC with the schedule so far being:

The Marathon would be its square peg. The Marathon is the ill-fitting part of championship weekend. It contains the peculiarity of being the only Breeders’ Cup race run on Ladies’ Day that is not exclusively for distaffers. Once again, the Marathon is the leadoff event for Breeders’ Cup weekend. The 14-furlong test is appropriately the longest BC race that extended by a quarter mile for last year’s running.

For the 14 Breeders’ Cup Championship races, Pre-entries have been released and a record 184 horses were pre-entered with 26 from overseas. Pre-Entry is the first phase of a two-stage entry process with the second on Tuesday, November 2, while for all 14 Breeders’ Cup races, entries are taken. Pre-entered horses can be in the final entries. Zenyatta, winner of the Classic last year, and Goldikova, winner of the Mile the last two years are back to win and defend their titles.

Forces in 2010 Breeders’ Cup Challenge have been joined in 2010 Breeders’ Cup Challenge, a series of 65 officially sanctioned Breeders’ Cup qualifying races by Breeders’ Cup Limited.
